Submarine encounter and Jetski swap

Image
In a crazy 30 knot squall I came across a submarine. Ken let me ride his Jetski while I tought him how to sail the Hobie. Great fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3k9vm15Ed8 https://www.facebook.com/alexander.foreman/videos/10155174703121916/

Video: Fast sailing Lake Borumba with Heidi on the Hobie Adventure Island "Savage"

Image
A very precious family moment. On a stinking hot and humid day while on a camping trip in the rain forests, my sister decided to come sailing with me.  Savage showing off her high performance video: Camped out in the Imbil State Forest with Heidi From our campsite we went to Lake Borumba in the Imbil State Forest and nearly melted as we set up. It was so hot the bitumen was melted at the boat ramp. Setting up Hobie Island "Savage", Borumba Dam in background Molten tar on my sister's shoes Trampolines set up to add deck space for passengers Fortunately it was nice and cool on the water and we sailed for about 6 hours having a great time. Alex Foreman relaxing on the tramps The wind came and went. We both had to do a fair bit of peddling. It is deceptively hard work, especially when going out for many hours. I don't notice the fatigue at the time but once in shore it becomes very noticeable. The entire shorelin...

Yacht racing, fighting for speed

Image
Heavy rain gave way to frustrating calm as J-FORCE prepared to face the competition. The skipper gave us orders to watch the other J Boats, to see who was faster than us and what they were doing. But this day panned out to be a different kind of racing. Fleet rounding the yellow marker buoy, fighting for speed in low winds. Hoisting the main as J-FORCE puts to sea. With no engine aboard, even manoeuvring through the harbour is a challenge.   We expected to be drenched with rain, but instead the day was picture perfect. It was beautifully calm, which is a problem for a yacht. We pushed ourselves away from the dock by hand as hard as we could, hoping to catch enough wind to make it out of Sandringham harbour at a crawling pace. I joked that the boat would need running lights because we wouldn't make it back before dark. Racing J FORCE

Image
When I caught wind that there was an opportunity to work as crew on a racing yacht, I had to go for it! I spoke to the Skipper of J FORCE. He was more than happy to take me on and asked me to crew for his upcoming sunset race. I could barely contain my excitement as I counted down the days. I've been on yachts and sailing ships before, but have never had the opportunity to crew in a race. I had no idea what to expect but it was going to be a fun adventure. Alex Foreman crewing J FORCE, during a sunset yacht race from Sandringham Anchorage, Port Phillip Bay I made my way down to the Sandringham Yacht Club, taking the scenic coastal route. It was windy, and the sea looked choppy, which only added to my excitement. Warren, the Skipper, greeted me with a friendly smile and a warm welcome, then I set about making myself a useful as possible. I was surprised to find the yacht sitting ashore on a giant trolley. We prepared the boat and wheeled her over to a large crane, where W...

Eye procedure and making the most of being stuck

The HiLux is officially written off, but there's no sense in wasting time. Trish took me out for a lap of her property in the family quad, then let me take it out for a spin. It's a fun little toy, especially around the corners!  St Patrick's Cathedral Headed into Melbourne on my Triumph Sprint ST. Got to love a city where parking your bike on the footpath is perfectly legal. I stopped by the Eye and Ear Hospital for a checkup. There is metal still embedded in my eye but the doctors assure me that it can stay there and may work it's way out at some point. The laceration has healed up nicely. Triumph Spirnt ST on footpath Melbourne Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne While in Melbourne I went sight seeing. I felt out of place in my dirty biker leathers around all the well dressed Melbournites.
